Garlic Day-April 19 Let's Celebrate

Gilroy, California is known as the "garlic capital of the U.S." and is located in Northern California's Santa Clara County. This year their annual garlic festival is July 28, 29 and 30. If your heading to the Napa/Sonoma Wine Country region make a point of stopping in Gilroy to enjoy the many ways garlic can be used. My personal favorite is pickled garlic cloves.

It has been widely claimed that consuming garlic regularly helps to reduce bad cholesterol, as well as combating high blood pressure. Garlic is also often referred to as natures antibiotic. Personally I keep a jar of minced garlic on hand to add to chicken soup when ailing from a bad cold or flu. Works wonders!

A personal recipe favorite: Roma tomatoes, sliced red onion, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, and of course sliced pickled garlic cloves. Mix with your favorite extra virgin olive oil and red wine vinegar and marinate for at least a couple of hours for a delicious salad.
